Guys:
This washer motor's clutch kicks in and out rapidly when in spin cycle and the motor gets hot. I've been working on it for a week, looking at postings for ideas. Now I'm not sure what to do next. :confused:
Originally, it clicked on and off and then just stopped working entirely. I opened it up and replaced the capacitor. The motor ran then fine when it was not connected to the transmission. So took apart and cleaned up the transmission and agitator and checked the clutch. It all looked fine -- nothing obviously broken, but I'm not sure what to look for. I put white grease on the agitator and oiled everything, including the motor shaft, etc. and put it back together and ... it still clicks. :mad:
Is the motor shot? I'm thinking that's my next stop. This washer has had a fair amount of use -- lots of loads of dirty diapers.
Ideas?

I cannot get your model number to come up, but I assume this is a direct drive Whirlpool.
If your machine does not agitate or spin, but the motor will run when it is off the transmission then you need to check the transmission and brake tube. If the transmission will not turn by trying to turn it with the piece of motor coupling then something is jammed.
If it does turn then it is more likely the motor is worn out and does not have enough power to turn things, but this is unlikely.

Thanks. It is a direct drive and transmission seems fine. I took it apart and cleaned and lubed/oiled it. So I'm thinking it is the motor that's just worn. It's got 14 years of hard labor on it. Thanks.

You are probably right, and maybe after all that service it is time to say thank you to the machine and get a replacement.

If you have lateral play in the motor bushings=new motor time.
