Hello;
I have a very old Sears Coldspot 17 that an older couple owned from the time it was brand new. The wife is meticulous and kept the unit very clean. But, they got rid of it because it stopped working and they didn't need it anymore with their kids grown & gone.
It is still clean inside, and it runs when I plug it in. It is NOT frost free (obviously) and a couple of the coils inside get frost on them, but the cabinet never reaches freezing temp. Coils in rear seem fine, compressor is clear of debris and there doesn't appear to be any leaks. Any ideas?
I talked to one service tech at Sears answer line who opined that it sounded like a thermostat issue to him. If I purchased that part, however, I could NOT return it for a refund if that turned out NOT to be the problem. How can I test it to see what's wrong?

Hello.
Does the evaporator coils inside covered completely with frost
or partially?
If the evaporator is covered all the way - then most likely it's a bad cold control.
If only partially - then it's a sealed system problem and not worth to fix.
For the correct part number please provide model number.
I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered on time. Although, it's probably too late to help you, I'm posting the answer anyway, so that it may help other people with a similar problem.

Hello, I was just given an old coldspot deep freezer. I didn't start it up right away due to the fact that it was sideways when they transferred it. I got it all cleaned up and waited 24 hrs to plug it in. So now I discovered that the freezer starts up but shuts down in seconds and it continues to repeat the same cycle. What can be wrong with it?

Depending on the design of the deep freezer, there could be a couple of things that can cause this. If the model number could be provided, it will allow the most accurate information to be presented.
