My GE comfortmaker furnace was working fine and now it does not show signs of being powered on. I have reset the circuit breaker and the electrical switch connected to the furnace and no luck. Also tried different settings - a/c or heat on the thermostat and still no luck. It is propane powered and my gas level is at 40%. Any ideas?

The wall thermostat has to rely on a transformer

typical low voltage

24 volt transformer

to power up the operator on the gas valve.

I had a technician take a look at the furnace. I watched as he diagnosed the problem and couldn't help but notice how incompetent he was. After fiddling with the control board for sometime he waived his hands and said the problem was from the control board. Cost to fix=$550. He also advised that I should replace the entire furnace for $4600. I ended up paying $96 for his trip. What a waste. As soon as he left, I went to work with my limited knowledge of electricity and zero knowledge of how furnaces work.

I noticed that the white wire from the thermostat was not connected to the control board. I fixed it but still no luck. When I decided to take out the control board so I could change it replace it myself, I noticed a 5 Amp fuse on it and it was blown. I bought a pack of 5 Amp fuses for $3.06, replaced the one on the control board, pushed the door button and BINGO - I had ignition and HEAT.

The bottom line is that the technician was a joke. BEWARE of these guys. I am now wondering if I should put a stop payment on the $96 check.
