While running, the microwave died a few days ago with no power to the unit. There was no blown fuse and I checked another outlet I knew to be working.

After reading through posts here, I took the unit down, pulled it apart and began looking for the thermal fuse with limited success. While checking the current, I lifted a plastic casing (about 3 inches long by 1/3" around) located a few inches behind the top of the control panel and power returned to the unit.

I re-installed the microwave and used it for several minutes. About 6 hours later, I noticed that the unit was dead again.

At this point I'm not sure if the fuse could be the issue if it came back on. If so, any diagrams to help locate the fuse would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks RegUS. It looks like the 'plastic casing' I referred to was the fuse cap. The microwave comes on every now and then and sometimes opening and closing the door firmly will restore power to the unit. Could the fuse be blown and still work at times? Does this problem sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks-

Pat

no, but there could be a loose connection somewhere.
