In the last few weeks the Dishwasher lights have begun to fail. Today, the panel on the front will not respond at all and start the cycle. Since most of the lights have not been working, we can't even tell if it is reading our commands. It has been functioning even without the lights but now, nothing. It has power since the one light (Heavy Duty Wash) is still working and comes on when we select that cycle. We then push "Start" and nothing will start. I need to know what parts I might need to replace. Thanks.

I will start by making sure the door is closing properly so that the door switch is closing. if that checks , take the top panel off and look at the conections and make sure they are cleaned and nothing is burn out.
visually look for any lose wires, connections.

I looked over everything as Eddie suggests. I removed the ribbon cable from the Control Board (Matag Model: MDBTT60AWW part 7) to the front panel (part 1) and made sure everything was connected. I turned the power back on and everything (lights on the front and buttons, etc.) worked right for just a few washes. Then it went back to not working. I tried it again and it is still not working. I just went down and closed the door, pushed a button and now I again have lights for all except regular wash, close the door... it latches... but the "start" will not begin the wash. Lights/buttons work and it starts... then nothings works... then lights work but it wont start. Big mystery!! Do I need the control board?

Sounds Like we are not getting a good connections some where.
When the door is close make sure it looks level so the latch will make a good connections. Last I will check the connections in .

If it is hard wire check the wire nuts make sure is tight and clean.
If it is a power cord to an outlet check the outlet connections .

I have found lose connections on oulets no making the DWs work properly it will turn it on but right after it start it will lose power again.

Here are your parts
Replacement parts for MAYTAG MDBTT60AWW | AppliancePartsPros.com

Here is the tech sheet
http://www.servicematters.com/m...ibrary/docs/16026393.pdf

You may want to clean the connectors, see below.

Normally the way to trouble shoot the keypad and control board is to check the keypad with a meter if it checks out OK then replace the control board.
This reduces the odds of getting the wrong part but it is still a bit of a crap shoot.

Cable/Connector Cleaning
Unplug the unit
Open it up
Remove the ribbon cable from the keypad to the control board at the control board.
Clean the edge connector.
If it is the type where there is not a connector just the insulation is removed, it can be cleaned with a pencil eraser. Do not use an ink eraser as it is too abrasive.
Check the tracks in the ribbon cable for hairline cracks. A magnifying glass helps here.
Would not hurt to clean the connector on the board. Use electronics contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush. Be gentle and do not reconnect till all the solvent evaporates.
Reconnect everything and give it a try.
