Both are warm; I've cleaned the "fin" area under the frig of any and all dust collections and the fan for the compressor is running. Does this frost-free model have an automatic defrost switch which could have gone bad; is there a thermostat that could have gone bad;...or is it time to replace it?

Is the compressor running? Is there heavy frost on the evaporator coils or cover? Is the fan inside the freezer running? Yes it does have a defrost switch that can be causing your problem but answer these questions so that we can determine what problem you are having. Refrigerator Not Cooling Repair Guide

I "believe" the compressor is running! It has that "frig is running" sound when you plug it in. The fan that cools the compressor and evaporates the water is definitely running.
No frost anywhere! Not on coils, not on cover, not in freezer.
The freezer fan is running and it is blowing air in both compartments; that air is nowhere near cold though.
Thanks for your help!

On the evaporator coils (coils inside the freezer) there should be a thin layer of frost that covers the entire coils if not and the compressor is running you may have a refrigeration problem. If you place your hand on the compressor you will be able to feel it vibrating if it is running but be careful it may be hot.

Applianceman: thanks for your responses. The frig is at my daughter's apartment and she said when she came home last night, nothing was running! She pulled the plug on it and today, we officially "pulled the plug" on its life; she bought a new one today!
