hello i have a brand new GE 12000BTU AC. its all digital works fine. only problem is that the compressor comes on, it blows out nice cold air for 30 sec or so then the compressor trips an overload or safety switch or something and shuts off for about a min. then turns back on and repeats the cycle. but the fan and everything else stays on. any ideas? again its brand new. but cant be returned because i work at the store i got it from. it was a defective return, i snatched it before it was thrown away.

I would start at the overload switch. You will need to know the voltage at this switch. It could be the switch is bad, a short somewhere that causes it to trip etc.

Try replacing the capaitor first, they are fairly inexpensive. If it still has a hard time starting go with the hard start kit. That should buy you some extra time, no telling how long maybe a year or longer maybe not its hard to predict something like that.

It could be a bad capacitor, over load,or maybe low on refrigerant.

I have a samsung a/c with an "energy saver" setting that acts the same way, so we don't use that setting. Does it still do this when run on High cool?

You might also see if GE will warranty it. Usually, with appliances like this, after 30 days fall under the manufacturer warranty. It's worth a try, all they can say is NO.
