If you know how to handle a simple tools and how to use a simple multimeter then you probably can do it yourself. If you do not feel yourself comfortable to work with it then probably is better to call a certified technician. Burning electrical smell in most cases is a sign of a bad transformer, but do not rush with the part before you confirm it is bad. Gene.
