Hey all- I replaced the broken coupler on our washer, put it back together and fired it up and BANG!. The dang thing stopped cold.
I flipped it up and rolled the coupler/ motor backwards a few revolutions and tried it again... Bang again. Then I tore it all apart, pulled the pump and motor off and confirmed the problem is on the gearbox/ tranny end of things. Just won't turn forward past a certain point. Any ideas? Sorry I don't have my m/n handy; I'm at work. It's a typical Whirlpool top load direct drive. Thanks.

Hi Snowden

Sounds like the transmission, but I am assuming that when you start the machine it fills with water but will not agitate or spin.

I would suggest you replace the transmission, but if you want more analysis please post your model number and a more detailed description of exactly what happens when you try to operate the machine.
