My microwave started a small fire on the cardboard inside the microwave, this happened when a cup of hot water was placed in microwave. I want to replace the card piece and the device behind the cardboard, so that I can use the microwave. My microwave was built in the years that had a recalled by GE for fire, but my model number is not part of that recall for some reason. I personally feel the fire is enough but GE does not seem to agree. I think I need to replace the magnetron but wish to make sure. the fire happened on the inside face of the cardboard. Please advise. Please note if microwave is started again fire ensues again.
thx, Tim Frank

Tim: You really need to read the reports at this website - these GE microwave oven fires are becoming quite common. There is a class action suit against GE for the fires. If you decide to replace the microwave, keep the old unit (and manuals, etc) some place for proof of ownership. I hope this helps.
