Having trouble getting stable Ohm readings on thermostats and heating element with new digital multimeter. Readings fluctuate wildly even tho components are isolated. Set at 200ohms. Looking for ranges from 68-82 and 24-35 on the heating element but getting readings in 130 +s. What am I doing wrong? Why won't the reading stabilize? Thanks for your advice. Charles

Try it on clean surfaces, that's why they use pointed probes!

Thanks! I was putting more of the probe against the terminals than needed.
I was able to get steady readings for all thermostats at .1 and assume that means they are OK. I'll order a heating element since the readings were above the manufacturer's ranges.
