Gene,

Please help. The turntable in my microwave doesn't work all the time...

It works sometimes, and when there's no weight on the plate, but as soon as I put a heavy dish on there it doesn't work.

I pulled up the piece with the wheels on it to make sure it was set in there correctly, but there's nothing between that piece and the motor.... Should there be?

When I put a heavy plate on there, and then I pull up the piece with the wheels, the flat spot on both pieces is not in the same place anymore.

Can you help?

Thanks,
Ben

Ben,

In the center of that "piece with the wheels" should be a "D" shaped hole. The shaft of the turntable motor should go into that hole. Check if the support has not been turned up side down.

Gene,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the "D" shaped hole fits onto the motor shaft.... but when I put a heavy plate on it, the motor turns and doesn't turn the support. When I pull the support piece off the motor the flat side doesn't match up to the flat side of the motor any longer. The hole also doesn't look stripped, but last night I did notice a burning smell in the microwave. When I turned the turntable off, the smell went away.

Is there any piece between the "piece with the wheels" and the motor?

Thanks,
Ben

Ben,

Sounds like the turntable motor has gone bad. Especially if the motor shaft can be moved manually and the "D" shaped hole in the support is not cracked and/or worn out.

This part is very expensive, but if you post the voltage, rpm, wattage, shaft diameter and shaft length of the original motor, we might find a chipper replacement.
