I turned on the oven and heard a sizzle then a little smoke rose from behind the center of the range (control area). The oven and broiler won't heat now. The fan for the convection oven comes on. The warming drawer warms. Help please! I had to borrow the neighbor's oven to fix dinner. Oh, and all the function buttons work and light up and act like they're going to work. The display function is fine.

If I'm not mistaken, that is just the model number of the electronic control which might be used on your appliance. What we need to identify it is the whole appliance's model number. Has anyone inspected the components in the area for signs of damage? Your failure description might be caused by just burnt wiring but might be as serious as a failure of the electronic control. PLEF398DCD is the model number, the other number is the one from the owner's manual. I should have known that was too easy.

Now the broil and bake elements do not heat. Everything else works fine. No errors on the control display. Using the posts on this forum, especially from user 'rjblumii' (Thanks!) and the service document from the link above, I found that one pin of the L2 switching relay vaporized its solder joint on the control board. The only thing this relay does is switch the second hot leg for these two elements. I cleaned it up, then soldered a thick jumper from the burned relay leg to the pins for the spade connector. Works fine. No need to buy a new control board if you can solder.
