The compressor trys to start then after about 2 seconds I hear a click and it goes off. Is this a bad relay? All the part diagrams I find are very hard to see. Could it be the overload?

Yes a bad relay. The bad one probably will rattle.

Looking at the schematic on the back of the freezer the overload is the part in question. There is also a starter. I see no external relay. Please help. Would it be the overload?

You need to replace the relay AP2136233 a black box that plugs in the side of the compressor. The overload AP2142018 is probably ok. Make sure the run capacitor is connected also.

Looking at the compressor there is a welded piece of metal that the cover fits into. Inside there are two pieces that I can see. One is the overload and the other is a small black piece with red wire coiled. The yellow wire feeds into what I think is the overload and then the black wire comes out from there and connects to the piece that has the red wire coil. The red wire coil seems to be a permanent part of the compressor. I might have my terminology wrong. Where is the run capacitor located?

The piece with the red coil is your start relay, just might be bad altho rather rare. You probably have a bad compressor, but you can order the start relay with the part # I mentioned above. The run capacitor,if it has one, is usually wired in external to the compressor.
