Had lightening strike near house and now microwave does not work properly. The fan runs by itself and the control panel is all green...no buttons are visable nor the time, etc. Any suggestions on what might be wrong?

Most likely the problem is a bad control board.

- The part number for the control board is AP3883401

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for GE JVM2070SK02 | AppliancePartsPros.com

You are welcome. I'm afraid I did not get clear which part did you replace: the control board (#21) or the control panel (#130) on the diagram?

It's a pretty good idea to protect it with a surge protector. You may also check with your electrician to see how much he'll charge you for a "Whole House" surge protection. In my area, a typical (up to 200 amp service) whole house is around $200.00. Not bad, when you start to compare that with a separate protector for your micro, computer, TV(s), Refrigerator, laundry equipment, etc.
