Hi all,
Was finally able check out the dryer again. The cycling and high limit thermostats both have continuity after all, but the black wire that attaches to the heating element is burned. The connector was completely burned off and the wire was charred about an inch down from where the terminal would have been. I am guessing that I can cut the wire back and put on a new connector rated for high heat, but I want to figure out what caused this. If the connector nuts were not properly tightened, could this be the cause? The nuts seemed loose on both sides of the insulator. I haven't pulled out the dryer to clean the venting out yet, but wanted to solve the burnt wire issue first. I do intend to thoroughly clean out the vent before using the dryer. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

I sometimes find a wire burnt as you mention in an electric dryer for no good reason. When I worked on higher voltage high current traction motors we had to be very careful about crimping the large power cable ends. You may have had one of the wires in the power side of your dryer that had a crimp on the connector that was not quite as good as it should have been resulting in a burnt connection/wire. I suggest you check all the wires and terminal screws,etc for proper fit and torque when you go back together.

Thorning, Thank you for your response. I I'll make sure there are no crimps in the wire nor loose connections. I will let you know what happens. It will be great to have this thing working again. I had to put up a clothesline yesterday:(
