My dryer squeaked, then stopped heating.
I replaced the heating element (the coil was broken)
Upon reassembly I replaced the ball and socket. The socket was badly worn.
Upon the second reassembly, after the drum is on and the belt is in place , the drum is sags low and rests on the fan housing. When the drum is turned I can hear it rubbing against the new heater coil.

Why does my drum hang low?

I think it is likely you did not get the ball back into the socket correctly. The other possibility is that the front did not go back on correctly and is too low.

Take it apart again, and if everything looks ok, put it back together and I bet things work out ok.
