We just received a used Maytag washer and dryer yesterday. It had been sitting in a storage unit for about a year. Once we hooked everything up, we decided to run a cycle in the washing machine with some bleach just to clean it out and to make sure that it worked. Well I went in to check it after about 5 or 10 mins and water was spilling out of it. We got some of the water out with a bucket and turned it to the spin cycle and it worked fine the rest of the wash. We tired it again on a lower water setting and small cycle. Did the same thing. We caught it before it filled up all the way. But while we trying to figure it out we noticed that it was not agitating and there was barely any cold water coming out when we put it on just cold water. We checked the water pressure at the wall and it was fine. We don't know much about washing machines, so I am not sure what it could be or if it's something that we would be able to fix on our own. (I would like to try to). Thanks!

The water level pressure switch isn't working. Either the switch is faulty or the pressure hose is clogged at the tub fitting or the hose has a leak in it. Open the front panel and check the hose fitting on the tub. Check the hose for kinks, cracks/splits or a hole rubbed in it somewhere between the tub fitting and the switch behind the control panel. You can check the switch by using a small length of hose that fits the fitting on the switch. As the washer is filling, blow into the length of hose. This should activate the switch causing it to stop filling and start agitating. Whirlpool 22001619 Tube-Air - AppliancePartsPros.comWhirlpool 22001656 Switch, Water Lvl - AppliancePartsPros.comEric

Well we took the panel off the back of where the controls are and discovered a mouse nest. Once we got it cleaned out, we saw that it had chewed some of the wires. I'm sure they will need to be replaced. Is this easy to do? Where could we we find the parts? Or should we try to get our money back from the person who sold it?

Well, easy for me, but probably not for you. Can you provide photo's? Might be able to walk you through it if it isn't too bad.
