My Model is a GE GBS22HBPACC.
I have read posts in this thread and elsewhere in the fourm, and have tried troubleshooting a few things already.
(I got continuity on the thermodisc and defrost heating element. I check resistance on the heating coil thermister and got an expected reading. I had encountered these problems before and replaced a thermister and that fixed it).
The difference between the posts I've found here (and my last problem) was the coils were freezing over and blocked.
In my current situation that is not the case. There is no blockage on the evaporator coils. Also the fan is running fine.
I suspect the fridge / fresh food themistor could be bad and causing the problem. Also I suspect the damper assembly between the freezer and fridge.
I don't know how to test to verify these. Can anyone offer suggestions? The damper cover didn't seem like it wanted to come off, and I didn't want to pry too hard and break it.
Should I just order new thermisters and replace the fridge one (or all 3)? Or should I test them and test the damper? Can anyone help with this? Thanks! -Tim

The sticky here seems to be leading me in the right direction. After defrosting the coil the compressor on the refrigerator is running all the time. Both the freezer and fridge are cold now. Would either a defective defrost thermostat, heating coil or control timer on a Maytag model MBF2254HEQ cause the unit to run like this?

Before ordering any parts you may want to check for continuity the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. If any of them defective (no continuity), the part would need to be replaced. If they both are in good condition, the electronic control board (#5 on the diagram) would need to be replaced. The defrost heater Part number: AP6010293

Kenmore Side-By-Side; Model # 363.9542683.
Refrigerator was warm and freezer was still cold. I removed the freezer back panel and saw the evap coil was encased in ice. No air flow. I melted the ice with a hair dryer, and for a few days the refrigerator was working at 36+/- degrees in the fridge; freezer < 0 degrees F.
Evap coils froze over again, and I bought/installed a new defrost assembly with heating elements and thermostat (part number WR 51X442...it was the right one). Tested the old one and it was bad. The new one appears to be working fine...elements lit up and it was sizzling when compresser and fans were off.
It's been almost a day, and the fridge temp is 50 F. Is this a "bad part" problem? Replacing the def system was abnormally easy and I didn't hit/loosen anything up.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance. Crisis averted. Seems the real problem was I didn't give the fridge enough time to cool off. It's been over 90 degrees with high humidity here, and with all the opening/closing of fridge and freezer doors, that probably caused the slow cooling. The new part and fridge/freezer are working as designed (knock on wood). Before I figured it out, I was concerned that both the heating elements AND the compressor were running at the same time. After watching both, i saw that was not the case.
