ok, and thanks again for all this help. I have the fridge/freezer all cleaned out so i will run it for a while like this and see what happens before i start putting food in either compartment.
When do you think it would start getting frost on the back wall of the freezer again if there is still a problem? Within a couple days? a week?

Probably a couple days.
Depends on how much usage as openig the doors introduces warm moist air which then becomes frost on the evaporator coils.
The timer runs a defrost cycle for 30 minutes every 8 hours.
