I have replaced the thrust bearing pulley assembly once about a year ago and fixed the problem. Problem happened again, so replaced assembly again, with no luck. Agitator spins slowly, but drum will not. Drum will turn by hand. Replaced belt, no luck. Motor assembly seems to have a lot of play in it, so belt is slightly loose.

Operate it with the front panel off and see if you can determine if the problem is with the motor or transmission. Sounds like the motor may not be moving to tighten the belt as it should.

I ran it tonight, and going to into spin mode, both drum and agitator would spin, but then something, like clutch kicked in and slowed and then started again. Tried it several times, same thing. Did notice motor had some play in it. There is a small spring that attaches to the base plate of the motor. Could that spring be worn that it won't let the motor tighten? When it would spin, it would not wring out the clothes very much

That spring almost never wears out. Make sure the motor can freely pivot. You might try replacing the thrust bearing assembly again but this may be something in the transmission if the motor is not slowing down.
