Have a GE top loader, loud noise during agitation, spin. Leaks down around pulley bearing area. Have tub nut spanner wrench. Tried to loosen clockwise. Wouldn't loosen w/ 3 days of penetrating oil. Today I thought it broke loose. Instead the entire shaft is turning. Help!

Thanks Stubborn Nut

I am fearful that the leak has let water into the mode shifter assembly in which case I think given your problem getting the nut off that a new machine is the best option here.

Sorry not to have a better recommendation.
