Found while on spin cycle the agitator does not spin. Needs some help to spin? Is this common?

Are you saying the basket is spinning but the agitator is not?

When basket is spinning, is the agitator going back and forth? This is not a dual action agitator correct? Agitator is one piece? Does it work correctly during agitation cycle?

Does the machine have to be hooked up to water when on wash cycle?
It was not agitating until the last 2 min. on wash cycle. On rinse cycle
it did not work also. But when on spin cycle I could stop the drum with my hand. Sounds like tranny?

Washer will agitate in wash cycle without water only during last 2 minutes of cycle. Must be full of water before last 2 minutes in order to engage the water level pressure switch. There is no "dry agitate" function in rinse cycle. What is the problem with the washer? Originally you said on spin cycle, basket would spin but agitator would not. Why do you think you have a transmission problem?

Before My first post I noticed the tub was spinning on the spin cycle and the agitator was barley moving, It is a one piece. After the post I went back and noticed I could stop the tub with my hand when on spin, I did not think that was possible, So My thought was transmission trouble? I can push down on agitator while in spin cycle and stop the tub. Could this be a simple fix? Thank you.

I guess I'm not getting what the problem is. Does the washer wash, drain and spin your clothes normally? There is nothing actively driving the agitator during spin. The agitator shaft is free to rotate. As far as stopping the basket during spin with your hand, it depends on the condition of your clutch and drive block.
