Kenmore washer "throwing" fabric softener after a clutch replacement

I recently replaced the clutch because the washer wasn't spinning in the spin cycle under load. However, ever since then there has been fabric softener on the top of the tub/basket, almost as if the fabric softener basket is too high or the softener is coming out with too much force. Is there something I should inspect/tighten/loosen? Thanks in advance!

You need to see if you have the components of the agitator back on correctly.
I have never seen this, so it is kind of a mystery, but try taking the agitator off, clean it out good and then put it back together. You may need to soak the parts in hot water for a while to get all the softener gunk out.

Thanks. I'll take the agitator apart and put it back together this weekend.
