Hi all
Several years ago--maybe 5?-- I replaced the ignitor on our range.
The oven is not lighting or warming again. Is it possible/typical that the ignitor lasted only 5 years? We do use the oven quite a bit.
Second question: Immediately upon replacing the ignitor the first time, we found that the oven smells gassy during pre-heat; after reaching temperature, the smell goes away and doesn't come back at all.
Before I get in there and botch things up a second time...what do you suppose I did wrong to introduce such a smell? It drives my wife bats. I remember that refitting the burner tube through its little round bracket to the safety valve was a HUGE p.i.t.a. (being almost unreachable) even with heat shield and I think even the oven bottom removed...In fact, I never really understood how the burner connection looked before I disassembled it, let alone how good it looked after reconnecting. Is there some art to that?

--Greg Greg, Your on the right track, you probably have a weak igniter, again, very common problem, based on your description. Are you using Natural Gas or LP Gas ? This time, make sure you don not dislodge the air shutter assembly on the burner, it should be set approximately 3/4 to full open, Also check and clean all to port openings in the burner tube itself. Be careful when you re install the assembly on the bake burner, make sure the oraface(brass fitting, is centerred in the burner opening, and the air shutter is , remains open as mentioned before. If you work slowly and carefully, I'm sure you'll be OK. :) :) :)

It's natural gas.
I will get the ignitor replacement going and report back any issues with the gas!

Thanks, just ordered the part from APP for overnight, hopefully the wife will be back to baking cookies shortly!
