Hi.. I'm new here and have 2 problems. The first is my dryer. It is a Maytag that we bought in AZ and brought to TN 15 years ago. It still works great except for one minor problem.
It tumbles for hours and gets quite hot in there but the best I can get is damp. My clothes just don't get dry anymore. Zippers and buttons get hot enough to burn bare skin but just won't dry.
Right now I can't afford the $45 house call just to hear someone say "yep, it's broke".
Anyone have any suggestions on things we can check out ourselves? Could the moisture sensor do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have the classic symptoms of a plugged or restricted vent. Drying is all about heat and airflow. If you have heat, then you don't have airflow. Check all your vent for blockages, folded flat venting, and stuck vent cap. Never use plastic venting, its not UL approved for dryers. I prefer rigid 4 inch vent and flexible aluminum venting.
