Can anyone tell me how to remove the GE tub nut. Is the secret, just pounding down on it with a cold chisel?? I tried sideways and got no results! Tried using the spanner wrench, the cheap universal one, not the expensive GE original. Would that make a difference!

Hey richappy, did you ever find the best way to remove the tub nut, right now I can't afford the expensive G.E. original spanner. By the way do you know the size of that nut when I look up the part it does not have the nut size is it 1-5/8 ?

That nut is so hard to remove that you must use the special, expensive GE spanner wrench to remove it. I bought the cheap spanner wrench and was never able to remove a nut with it. The nut is a left hand thread and is alluminum alloy. Using a pipe wrench will mess up the surfaces so bad that it will never come off with the expensive wrench! I heard of people using penetrating oil, a hacksaw and cold chisel, but you run the risk of damaging the spin basket.
